Sylvia Lawson Cook Shetler , 96, of Florence, formerly of Williamstown, KY, entered her eternal home on Monday February 5, 2024 at her home at Colonial Heights. Born on Thursday March 3, 1927 in Menifee County, KY, she was the daughter of the late Rev. Roy Edgar and Mary Betty Lewis Lawson.
On March 9, 1946 she was united in marriage to William Cook; he preceded her in death in 1963. In 1972 she was married in marriage to Vernon “Lefty” Shetler; he also preceded her in death. She was a bookkeeper for many years, starting with R.A. Green Gulf Distributor and ended her career with the Clow Corporation. She was a graduate of Mason High School in Grant County. For many years she was a member of Williamstown Baptist Church where she loved singing in the choir; her current membership was held at Florence Baptist Church.
Sylvia was a beautiful, sweet-spirited lady who leaves a tremendous legacy to her family, which includes: one son: Ronnie L. (Paula Hellmann) Cook of Burlington; one daughter: Sharon K. (David) Fortner of Florence, KY; two sisters: Bernice Bennett of Williamstown, KY, Odella Delaney of Corinth, KY; two stepsons: Terry Shetler of Hebron, KY, Tommy Shetler of North Carolina, along with 3 grandchildren: Kelli (Scott) Wilson, Marissa (John) Eddington, Nick Cook and 5 great-grandchildren: Alex Wilson, Ashton Wilson, Merrick Eddington, Elliott Eddington and Summer Cook. She was preceded in death by six sisters: Mable Simpson, Beulah True, Ella Simpson, Betty Sue McClanahan, Julia Cash, Florene Lucas and one brother: Roy Lawson, Jr.
Visitation will Friday February 9, 2024 at Stanley Funeral Homes – Williamstown from 11:00 a.m. till 1:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 with Darrell Link officiating. She will be laid to rest beside her first husband, William Cook, in the Williamstown Cemetery.
