Tim Allen Hicks

August 29, 1961 — July 12, 2024

Tim Allen Hicks, a Verona, Kentucky resident, passed away suddenly at his home early Friday morning, July 12th, 2024; he was 62 years old. He was born on Tuesday, August 29th, 1961 at the St. Elizabeth Hospital in Covington, Kentucky to Glendel Hicks and the late Sally Baker Hicks. In addition to his mother, Tim is preceded in death by his great-nephew, James Harris.

Tim was someone who never met a stranger, never able to go anywhere without running into a friend. His family refused to ever go to the store with him, as you’d be in there for hours as he talked with everyone he knew. He would even sit on the porch every day to tell the postal carrier hello. Such an incredibly kind, sweet soul that everyone adored. He was well known for his sense of humor, and was considered the company jokester/prankster at work. Every day was a happy occasion for Tim, always smiling, often just smiling for no reason at all.

Tim is a Walton-Verona High School graduate, class of 1980; with membership at the South Fork Christian Church in Verona for a number of years. He played in the church softball league and as a young boy worked a local paper route for the Cincinnati Post. In his late teens, Tim joined the Verona Volunteer Fire Department, eventually being made chief and volunteering there for well over 20 years. As chief he continually advocated for new equipment like brush trucks and engines for the department, in addition to taking on the role of a leader and mentor; he showed the ropes to many young firefighters, many of whom are still volunteers to this day.

Tim worked as a service advisor at Zimmer Motors, advising customers on how best to maintain their vehicles for over 36 years until his retirement from the company. It was at Zimmer Motors that Tim would meet his future wife and love of his life, Robin. The two worked with one another for close to 10 years, over time becoming good friends, until finally deciding to go on a date one evening, and the rest is history. On Saturday, December 5th, 2009, Tim and his beloved Robin were united in marriage; laughing, smiling, and loving hard together for the next 14 years.

Tim loved formula 1 and Nascar racing, as well as all things Mopar. In the 80s he would attend car shows, showing his blue and black speckled Dodge Magnum that meant so much to him he had its picture printed on a t-shirt. When he started up his engine, he wanted the windows of the house to rattle. Following his retirement from Zimmer, Tim began the craft of woodworking and would often enjoy making American flags out of the staves from whiskey barrels.

In addition to his wife and father, Tim is survived by his step-mother, Judy Hicks of Verona, Kentucky; his adoring sister, Glenda Poe of Florence, Kentucky; a nephew, Clayton Duvall; five nieces: Courtney Harris, Ashley Poe, Allison Poe, Jessica Elkins, and Janell Duvall; as well as several treasured great-nieces and great-nephews: Elizabeth, Charlee, Joanna, Faithlynn, Laila, Sally, Matt, Jordan, Conner, Corbin, Alex, and Owen.

A memorial service for Tim will be held at the Hamilton-Stanley Funeral Home in Verona, Kentucky on Thursday, July 18th, 2024. A visitation will be held at the funeral home from 11:00AM to 1:00PM, followed by the memorial service officiated by Brother Gary Griesser.
