Virginia Johnson Gilpen

Virginia Johnson Gilpen of Williamstown was born May 21, 1923 in Bullitt County, KY and died Tuesday, December 24, 2019 at her residence at the age of 96.

She was the daughter of the late William Robert and Omie Underwood Johnson. She was a homemaker, a Kentucky Colonel, a former volunteer for Grant County Helping Hands, a member of the Goldeneires Senior Citizens, and the oldest active member of the Williamstown Baptist Church where she was a member of the Super Seniors and the former Nursery Caretaker. On September 15, 1941 she was united in marriage to her husband, George David Thomas Gilpen, who preceded her in death on August 18, 1987.

Surviving is 1 son, Peter Stanley Gilpin of Bardstown, KY; 1 daughter, Ginger E. Franklin of Jacksonville, FL; 12 grandchildren, Renee Gilpin, Tashawna Ann Rodwell, Mark Anthony Bilka, Bradley David Bilka, Mitchell Ann Williams, Kathy Michelle Thompson, Travis Robert Edwards, Leroy Junior Edwards, and Gina Gail; 5 great-grandchildren, Graceson, Ella, Teagan, Sophia, and Avi; dear friends John, Roxanne and Macy Howe; niece by marriage, Ginny Simpson, and her loving companions Jake and Barney.

Funeral services will be 1:00pm Friday, January 3, 2020 at the Elliston-Stanley Funeral Home, Williamstown, KY followed by burial in the Williamstown Cemetery. Visitation will be 11:00am-1:00pm Friday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to the St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
