Vivian Mae Marksberry Porter

June 29, 1930 — January 9, 2024

Vivian Mae Marksberry Porter, of Williamstown, Kentucky entered her heavenly home Tuesday morning, January 9th, 2024 at the age of 93. She was born in Grant County, Kentucky on Sunday, June 29th, 1930 to the late Beauna and Bessie Marksberry. In addition to her Parents, Vivian is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Claude Mitchell Porter; her adored son, Mitchell Allen Porter; as well as four of her brothers: Harold, Ray, Jimmy, and Bill Marksberry.

Vivian was a member of Lystra Church of Christ in Mason, KY for over 60 years. She worked as a cashier at Caldwell Brothers Grocery for more than 25 years until its closing. Following her time at Caldwell's, Vivian became her son's caretaker when he suffered multiple debilitating brain aneurisms after returning home from serving in the Vietnam War. She shined as a caregiver for Allen, attending to his needs for over 40 years until his passing in May of 2019.

Over the years, Vivian became an avid fisherwoman as the family vacationed along Cherokee Lake in Tennessee, and the Saint Johns River in Astor, Florida. Each year the family traveled to their winter home along the Saint Johns River to relax, get away, and avoid the cold weather here in Kentucky. To make things more comfortable for Allen, the winter home was retrofitted to accommodate his care as the family spent many happy years vacationing there along the water together.

Vivian is survived by her devoted daughter, Sue (Dan) Bates of Dry Ridge, KY; her brothers: Beauna "Pete" (Shirley) Marksberry of Mason, KY, Donald "Toad" (Venessa) Marksberry of Grayson, KY, and Marvin (Faye) Marksberry of Mason, KY; her sisters: Dotty Faulkner of Falmouth, KY, Shirly Harp of Taylor Mill, KY, and Vicky (Rick) King of Falmouth, KY; as well as a sister-in-law, Ruth Porter of Williamstown, KY who became more like a sister to her over the years. Vivian leaves a lasting legacy of her five cherished grandchildren: Susan (Chris) Lawrence, Carrie (Brad) Richardson, Scott Bates, Debra (Gary) Allen, and Shelly (Rick) Justice; along with her 14 treasured great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Vivian will be laid to rest at the Williamstown Cemetery in Williamstown, KY alongside the two beloved men in her life, Mitchell and Allen. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will later be held by the family at a day and time yet to be determined. The website will be updated with those service details when they become available.
