Wilburn "Pike" Caskey

May 26, 1952 - June 29, 2021

Wilburn "Pike" Caskey was born on May 26, 1952 in Ashland, KY to the late Wilburn and Dorothy Ann Coonrod Caskey and passed away on June 29, 2021 in Edgewood, KY.  On September 8, 1979 he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Debra E. Cleveland Caskey.

How can we let go of someone who meant so much to all who knew and loved him?

Pike grew up in Ashland, KY and attended High School at Paul G. Blazer HS where he played football and was part of the winning team for the Kentucky High School Football Championship in 1967. Pike followed many of his family and friends in a career at Ashland Oil after graduation from the University of Kentucky. During his 25-year career at Valvoline, he held many positions working in many regions of the country. It was during his time living in Dallas, TX he met his wife, Debbie. They moved numerous times and enjoyed the diversity of cultures, history, cuisines, and geography. They made the most of each location regardless of how long they were there. Their last move was a compromise, allowing Debbie to keep her position she loved at The Jewish Hospital, while they commuted opposite directions. In 2002 after retiring from corporate life, Pike and his longtime friend and colleague formed Phoenix 27, LLC and became Valvoline Instant Oil Change franchisees. They grew from two locations to six, employing almost 50 people. He was also co-owner of the Shamrock Liquor store in Ashland, KY, a company his father founded. Pike also served as Treasurer for the Grant County Planning and Zoning Commission for many years until his passing.

Pike had a big, infectious personality that many were drawn to. Known for his sense of humor and storytelling, it was hard not to be rolling with laughter when around him. Family and friends often teased him about being “Mr. GQ”, as he was always “put together” with a great sense of style. He had many interests and hobbies including history, trivia, music and as a UK alumni, he was an avid fan of the basketball and football programs. Pike loved his family and friends fiercely and they were the greatest source of joy in his life.

Pike did not want his passing to be mourned, rather celebrated.  In keeping with his wishes, a Celebration of Life  will be held on Thursday, July 8, 2021 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Elliston Stanley Funeral Home in  Williamstown, KY.

An additional Celebration of Life  (No service & No flowers) will be held in Ashland, KY at a later date.  Memorial contributions are suggested to:  Freedom Bridge Animal Rescue NC, 5610 Onyx Court, Wilmington, NC 28412, https://www.freedombridgeanimalrescuenc.org/donate , Grant County Animal Shelter, or the charity of donor's choice.
