William Lee "Stump" Shields was born Sept. 8, 1947 in Covington, KY and passed away Oct. 28, 2018 at his residence in Verona, KY at the age of 71. He was the son of the late William James and Christine Marie Bryant Shields.
Stump was a retired welder for Krauss Awning in Newport and had also worked for Ortner Freight in Covington. He was a Veteran of the United States Army where he served in the Vietnam War as a member of the First Cavalry.
Stump was an avid outdoorsmen and loved hunting and fishing. He also loved UK basketball and listening to "old country" music. And Stump will be remembered most for his love of his family and spending time with them.
On May 26, 1978 Stump was united in marriage to Carolyn Marie Matt Shields. In addition to his wife, he is survived by 2 sons: Shawn (Kelly) Trapp of Glencoe and William Shields, Jr. of Verona; 5 daughters: Kandis (Ira) Scalf of Falmouth, Kerry Shields of Latonia, Julie (Al) Smith of Warsaw, Stacy Shields of Verona and Brandi (Gary) Lewis of Sparta; 23 Grandkids: Hunter, Wyatt, Jasmine, Aaron, Albany, Alexis, Kelsey, Morgan, Johnny, Cory, Spencer, Jared, Nathan, Kevin, Miriah, Gary III, Bralyn, Madison, Macee, Tristen, Raven, Peyton and Logan; and 8 great grandchildren: Brody, Baylor, Raeden, Kaiden, Kyndlee, Braxxton, Brannson, and new baby.
Funeral services will be 12:30 PM, Friday, November 2, 2018 at Hamilton-Stanley Funeral Home in Verona. Visitation will be 10 AM - 12:30 PM Friday at the funeral home. Burial with Military Honors provided by Elsmere Honor Guard will be in the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery, North.
