Wilma Nicholson Smith, 87, of Florence, KY passed away peacefully on May 7, 2024, surrounded by family at the St. Elizabeth Hospice Center in Edgewood, KY. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.
Wilma loved the outdoors, fresh air, and sun almost as much as she loved her family. She was never happier than when everyone was together and sharing a meal.
Wilma loved her husband, Denver. Together they worked the antiques circuit, buying and selling, and she could always be seen by his side. When they weren’t loading or unloading the truck, or hosting holiday get-togethers, Wilma and Denver took fishing trips to Alabama, which they both treasured.
Wilma and Denver had a son and two daughters they were immensely proud of, who remained close to her until her death.
Wilma was a member of the Florence United Methodist Church, where she was well known and respected. Amongst her friends and neighbors, who came over to chat with her while she sat outside on sunny days, she was easy to talk to, easy to get along with, and always had a smile on her face.
Wilma was born on August 6, 1936 to Thurman and Lillie Mae Nicholson in Owen County, KY.
In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband Denver Smith, her devoted son Gary Smith, and son-in-law Patrick Helmer.
Wilma is survived by her daughters; Marilyn Helmer of Verona, KY, Denise Smith of Florence, KY, a daughter-in-law; Debbie Smith of Crittenden, KY, grandchildren; Stephanie Ballard, Amber Memering, Ian Smith, Nathan Helmer, Hillary Smith, Ashley Smith, great-grandchildren; Jacob Bock, Olivia Memering, Jamie Booker, Aryanna King, Colson Smith, a sister; Faye Prewitt, and many nieces and nephews.
