Wilma Sue Smith , 72, of Owenton, KY, passed away Saturday July 6, 2019 at St. Elizabeth Hospice Care – Grant Co. Born June 1, 1947 in Manchester, KY, she was the daughter of the late Calept and Helen Riley Messer.
On November 1, 1974, she was united in marriage to Douglas Spence Smith, he survives. For 30 years, Wilma had become well-known, particularly in Northern Kentucky, for her “Cake Baking” skills; she baked cakes for all occasions but more specifically, for weddings. She loved traveling with her husband in their motor home, especially to the beach. She loved her gospel music and was a member of the Oak Ridge Boys Fan Club. She was a member of Bullittsburg Baptist Church in Petersburg, KY.
She leaves to mourn her passing, her husband of 45 years, Doug Smith, two sons: Michael Todd Perkins of Erlanger, KY, Douglas Jason (Angie) Smith of Verona, KY; two brothers: Veston (Carol) Messer of Walton, KY, Kenny (Carol) Messer of Monroe, NC and one sister: Linda Skirvin of Zeeland, MI. Also surviving are three grandchildren: D. J. Smith, Caroline Perkins and Michael Perkins.
Visitation will be Wednesday July 10, 2019 from 9:30-11:30 at Eckler-McDaniel Funeral Home in Dry Ridge. Funeral services will begin at 11:30 a.m. with Rev. Danny Knarr officiating. Burial will follow in KY Veteran’s Cemetery-North in Williamstown.
