EO6 Staff Sargent Zachary Kyle Mefford, 37, of Republic, MO, formerly of Williamstown, KY, entered his eternal home on Thursday June 27, 2024. He was medically discharged from the U. S. Army after proudly and courageously serving his country for eight years. In 2010, stationed at Fort Jackson, SC, he began an illustrious military career where he received many awards, honors and accolades including, National Defense Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal with Campaign Star and Professional Development Ribbon.; his primary specialty was in infantry. Upon the end of the Iraqi War, he was among the very last people deployed to wrap up things for the withdrawal of U.S. forces. Zachary was born Christmas Day, 1986 in Edgewood, KY, the son of Tim Mefford of Williamstown, KY and Debbie Woods of Georgetown, KY; they survive. Zachary’s warm and welcoming personality caused him to be endeared by everyone he ever met; he had friends from all over the world from various walks of life. He excelled in every endeavor in life, starting as a guard for the Williamstown High School Basketball Team where he earned over 2,700 points during his high school years. Upon graduating from WHS, he entered Asbury University where he continued to be proficient in his basketball skills. His love for fishing and hunting (especially deer) made him an avid outdoorsman but his greatest enjoyment came from spending time at the family cabin in Saskatchewan Canada. He was a member of Mt. Olivet Christian Church in Williamstown. He will be sorely missed but lovingly remembered by his parents: Tim (Gina) Mefford of Williamstown and Debbie (Bobby) Woods of Georgetown; his wife, Amy Lynn Mefford of Republic, MO; his daughter, Breklynn Mefford of Republic, MO; one step-son, Bowen Seehorn; his sister, Tara (Eric) Hanson of Corinth, KY; his paternal grandfather: Tom (late Reva Dell) Mefford of Nicholasville, KY; his maternal grandmother: Reva (late Jim) Myers of Corinth, KY; four step-brothers: Shane Woods, Connor Woods, Nicholas (Maria) Switzer, Zachary Switzer and his “Best Friend” a Pyrenees mix, “Gwen”, along with a world of friends that will forever cherish his memory. He wa preceded in death by a step-sister, Brandi Woods Friends may gather on Saturday July 6, 2024 at Mt. Olivet Christian Church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 1:00. Bros. Faron Franklin and John Bachman will be officiating. Burial will be Monday morning July 8, 2024 at Kentucky Veteran Cemetery – North (KVC-N) at 11:00 where full Military Honors will be observed.
