Zemer Kenneth Hammond

Zemer Kenneth Hammond, 82, of Corinth, KY passed away Saturday June 25, 2022 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center – Hospice Care Unit in Grant Co. Born Thursday January 11, 1940 in Owen County, he was the son of the late Andrew Kenneth and Ada Katherine Mason Hammond.

On April 5, 1958 at Canby Tabernacle Church he was united in marriage to the former Norma Elaine York, a union that lasted 64 years; she survives. Zemer worked at General Motors in Norwood, OH for many years. While still working at G.M., he served as a part-time deputy in Owen Co. under the direction of Sheriff Tommy Kemper. Upon retirement from General Motors, he served as a full-time Deputy under Sheriff Glen Waldrop for 4 years. He then continued to faithfully serve the citizens of Owen County through 4 elected terms as Sheriff. His career in law enforcement lasted 36 years.  He loved the people of Owen County; he will long be remembered for his many untiring efforts in serving the people of Owen County and how he gave “his all” to his constituent’s for 36 years. For 8 years he served on the Board of the Kentucky Sheriff’s Association, Owen Co. Bass Pro Club; he was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Owenton, the International Order of Oddfellows (I.O.O.F.), a Kentucky Colonel and a member of Canby Tabernacle.

In addition to his wife of 64 years, Norma, he is survived by one son: Josh Hammond of Corinth; four daughters: April Katrina (Greg) Mulberry of Cynthiana, Rebecca Dawn Hammond of Corinth, Karen Michelle McConnell of Corinth, Heather Elizabeth Hammond and her fiancé’ – Brian Gregory Good of Hebron and one sister: Marcella Kay (Danny) Evans of Corinth. Additional survivors include 11 grandchildren: Kristian Glen Howe, Mikeal Kenneth Mulberry, Jarrod Martin Lilly, Shannon Dawn Elam, Danielle Joycelyn Elaine Tracy, Tisheena Nicole Smith, David Scott Snell, Andrew Kenneth Snell, Morgan Makayla Marksberry, Brennan Troy Hammond and Elijah Caden Hammond, along with 16 great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by a sister, Glenna Rose Dixon.

Visitation will be Tuesday June 28, 2022 from 10:00 a.m. till 2:00 p.m. at McDaniel Funeral Home in Corinth.  Funeral services will begin at 2:00 with Rev. Daniel Tracy and Rev. John Wyatt officiating.  Burial will follow in Souder Family Cemetery, located on Pleasant Grove Road in Owen Co.
