Doris Jane Mcclure

Doris Jane McClure, 87, of Dry Ridge, KY, passed away on Thursday February 20, 2025 after more than 17 years of failing health, at Owenton Healthcare and Rehabilitation.  Born on July 13, 1937 in Owenton, KY, she was the daughter of the late Edward Gayle and Mary House Turner.

On August 27, 1971, she was united in marriage to Edwin Thomas McClure; he survives. For many years she served as a manager for Dollar General; in that capacity she served as a troubleshooter throughout various stores in her designated area. After retirement, playing Bingo, playing the “Nickel” machine at Belterra and attending yard sales were among her favorite pastimes.  In earlier years when health permitted, she, along with her husband, attended Mt. Zion Baptist Church and Elliston Baptist Church.

Survivors, in addition to her husband of almost 54 years, Tom McClure, include one daughter, Debbie (Frank, Jr.) Smoot of Owenton, KY; one brother, Wayne Turner of Madison, IN; two grandchildren: Jessica (Greg) Tabor and Chris (Karen) Walker, both of Owenton and a granddaughter, Claire Tabor. In addition to he parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Ronald Cardwell; a daughter, Vanessa McClure and a brother, Michael Turner.

In keeping with Doris’ wishes, there will be no services.  The family will gather at a designated time to scatter her ashes and reflect upon her life and love.
