James "Jim" Samuel Atchison

August 1, 1941 — September 15, 2022

James Samuel Atchison, 81, of Williamstown, KY (formerly of Eddyville, KY) died Thursday, September 15, 2022 at his home in Williamstown.  He was born August 1, 1941 in Philadelphia, PA.

On August 10, 1963 he was united in marriage to the former Charlotte Ann Kemper; she survives. He was a retired Probation and Parole Officer and Fire Arms Instructor for the KY Department of Corrections. He was Past President of the Kentucky Corrections Association and a member of the Lyon Co. Historical Society; he was  an environmentalist and co-founder of the HAWK Organization. Investing in the lives of young people brought him satisfaction and fulfillment throughout his life; having served as a baseball coach for the Grant Co. Little League, and umpire with Lyon Co. Little League.  In the ‘70’s, he was a voice of Grant County Braves Basketball as he provided sports commentary on local radio. He was a member of Family Worship Center in Williamstown as well as Glenn's Chapel United Methodist Church in Eddyville, KY.

He leaves to carry on his legacy his devoted wife of 59 years, Charlotte Ann Kemper Atchison; a daughter: Kathy (Mike) Shoemaker of Williamstown; two sons: Colvin Charles (Cindy) Atchison of LaGrange, Darrell “Todd” Atchison of Louisville, along with seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; an aunt, Barbara Norcia of Palm Beach Shores, FL and an uncle, Samuel (Delores) Getty, Sr. of Ridley Township, PA.

He was preceded in death by his beloved grandparents: William C. Getty, Sr. and Sarah (McGugan) Getty  and his mother: Matilda (Getty) Haas.

A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, September 25, 2022 at 3:00 PM and a visitation will be 2:00-3:00 PM at the Family Worship Center in Williamstown with Pastor Michael Williams officiating.
