Sharon Kay Loomis

April 27, 1946 — January 2, 2023

Sharon Kay Loomis, 76 of Martinsville, gained her angel wings and entered eternal rest at 3:50 pm on Monday, January 2nd, 2023, with her loving daughter and two best friends of fifty years, Karen Ray and Joanne Stone, by her side. Sharon’s health had been deteriorating for several months as she fought various medical issues, yet she never lost hope, her faith in Jesus, and her will to live. Her life on earth began on Saturday, April 27th, 1946, in Williamstown, Kentucky. She was the second oldest of six children born to the late Wilbur Lawrence “Web” and Charlene (Tidwell) Arnold.

Sharon spent her childhood in Williamstown, Kentucky, where she also graduated with the class of 1964 from Grant County High School. At the tender age of twelve, Sharon met the love of her life, Billy Ray Loomis, at the local skating rink…and it was love at first sight! The two dated all through high school and were married in Kentucky on December 15, 1964. In 1968, they settled in Indiana after spending four years traveling from state to state with Billy’s job.  In the early 1980’s, and after her girls were both in school, Sharon gained employment with the MSD of Martinsville. After a short time, she became the Title One Reading Aid at Smith and South Elementary Schools; a job she absolutely treasured! She dedicated nearly twenty years to the school system before retiring in 2001. Though she loved the children and her career, retiring granted her the greatest gift of her life…. the opportunity to help her daughter and babysit her three beloved grandchildren. Her family was undeniably her life! She never missed a practice, game, play, recital, school function or any opportunity to spend time with her daughter and grandchildren! She cherished the countless family vacations, cooking, attending church and Women’s Bible Study, and joining family and friends for a meal out on occasion. She was a proud and faithful member of the First Baptist Church in Martinsville, where she had numerous friends that she considered family.

In addition to being the greatest wife, mother and mamaw, Sharon will be fondly remembered for being extremely generous, funny, loving, and loyal.

She leaves behind a host of family and friends who will miss her deeply including her daughter, Stephanie Dawn Wesseler of Martinsville; three adored grandchildren, Mason Ray, Riley Kay and Max Landon Littell; brothers, Rusty (wife, Cheryl) and Rodney (wife, Marie) Arnold all of Kentucky; sister-in-law, Patti Arnold of Kentucky; and brother-in-law, Don Hensley of Kentucky; brother-in-law, Pete Loomis of Kentucky and numerous nieces and nephews.  She was welcomed in heaven by her parents; husband, Billy, who died on August 12, 2017; daughter, Lora Lee Loomis, who died accidentally on October 3, 1976; brother, Mike Arnold; sisters, Donna Hensley and Barbara Knock; and son-in-law, Bradley H. Littell, who died on January 6, 2010.

Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Friday, January 6th from 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm at Neal & Summers Funeral Home in Martinsville. Rev. John Maples will conduct a service celebrating Sharon’s life immediately following the visitation at 6:00 pm. She will be laid to rest at a later date in Williamstown Cemetery in Grant County, Kentucky, beside her late husband.
